The Community Agenda for Peace (CAP), will on June 29, 2017, gather Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, and Changemakers all around the world, at the Nigeria Institute for International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos for the Civil Society Awards 2017.
Speaking on the #CSAwards2017, Chief Executive Officer, CAP and convener, Amb. Phillips Obuesi, said “different sectors of the economy host awards to celebrate achievements within the sector, but no platform to celebrate those that through hard work and dedication have advanced humanity, bringing positive changes through developmental projects in Nigeria and beyond. That is the vision behind the Civil Society Awards.”
Obuesi, who is a United Nations Ambassador on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stated that “the CIVIL SOCIETY AWARDS- #CSAwards2017 is an initiative of Community Agenda for Peace (CAP) dedicated to recognizing African Civil Society groups who offer sustainable and scalable solutions to social and developmental challenges confronting Nigeria particularly Africa and the world at large.
“Over 128 entries were received from 28 countries around the world. From Nigeria to South Sudan, Pakistan to United Arab Emirate, UAE, Indonesia to Malawi, Tanzania to Kenya, South Africa to India, Bostwana to Liberia, Tunisia to Cameroun, Togo to Zambia, Ghana to Somalia, Cote D’Ivoire to South Korea. Entries from both English and French speaking countries were received.
“We have succeeded in reducing this number to a manageable 58 nominations and
15 of these organisations will be recognised. There will also be two special institutional awards to MTN Foundation and United Nations Information Centre and another three individual awards to Barr. Asuquo Asuquo Okpo, Engr. Kayode Ojo and Mr. Lawrence Wilbert.”
“CIVIL SOCIETY AWARDS 2017 is planned by a partnership and support from various organizations including the Youth for Transparency International (YTI), Community Agenda for Peace (CAP), African Youth Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP) Greenvest Solar
Technology and Smallbusinessclub.ng,” he added.
The high points of the event will be the official launching of Make Songs- Save Lives, an Africa-centric advocacy platform for SDGs using music and movies.
Also speaking on the #CSAwards2017, Chief Executive Officer, Conduit Communications Limited, Mr. Victor Gotevbe, whose firm is the Media Managers of the awards said “The Civil Society Awards 2017- #CSAwards2017 promises to be exciting as the Who is Who among the Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and World Changers in Nigeria and across the globe are billed to attend the awards.
Gotevbe said, Conduit Communications Limited, media managers of the awards has launched a hashtag #CSAwards2017 to follow the event on Twitter and other social media platforms.
