Death Toll of Fulani Herdsmen Invasion of Logo LGA, Benue State Rises

by on June 21, 2016

Another six bodies were Monday recovered by a search team in Ugondo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State where suspected Fulani herdsmen struck on Saturday.

On Sunday, 15 corpses were found on the scene of the attacks. The invasion has forced the residents and those in the neighbouring towns to flee their homes.

The herders, according to eyewitness, in the early hours of Saturday stormed Ugondo, Tyogenda in Iornov Council Ward of Logo Council, killed 15 persons and burnt several buildings.

The marauders on chasing out the original inhabitants had now taken over the invaded villages.

A fleeing member of the attacked community, Mr Joseph Gbamwuan aged 46, who spoke to our correspondent lamented thus, “as I speak with you the people are shooting sporadically and the villagers are fleeing including myself and members of my family for fear of being killed.

“The situation in Ugondo at the moment is scary and we are helpless, it is as if we are in a war situation where the mission of the invaders is to occupy and take over our villages.

“It is a pathetic situation because corpses are littering the community though one cannot give a specific number of the dead which should not be less than 15 but I know that the casualty figure could be huge because many have been wounded as bullets continue to fly around.
