A fresh crisis on Tuesday hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State with the suspension of its local government Chairman, Mr Jeffrey Obasanmi for allegedly nominating a candidate without adherence to due process.
Party leaders from 10 wards at a meeting passed a vote of no confidence on Obasanmi and mandated the Vice Chairman to take over the affairs of the party.
The petition against the chairman was signed by Ashorfor Sylvester, Hon Afolabi Daudu. Comrade Gbenga Martins, Mrs Victoria Balogun and six others.
The Chief Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly, and a member representing the area in the House of Assembly, Mr Kabiru Adjoto, who reacted to the vote of no confidence, asserted that “the entire leadership in Akoko Edo has rejected the chairman.”
He accused him of constituting an illegal committee to screen unqualified people as commissioner nominees.
“They went on to publish result of the kangaroo screening committee on the social media with names of aspirants he wanted thereby dragging the name of APC in the mud. So we are unanimous in this vote of no confidence so that the proper thing will be done,” he asserted.
