The immediate past National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee and former governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Muhammed Makarfi, says he is still holding consultation on his political ambition in 2019.
Makarfi is being wooed into presidential race by his some PDP leaders in Kaduna State.
At a closed-door meeting with state chairman of PDP on Sunday, Makarfi said that the forum was organised to review certain political developments and discuss the way forward.
In a reaction to rumours of his presidential ambition, Makarfi, who acknowledged the concern of his supporters, said that he would announce his political interest for the forthcoming general elections as soon as he concludes his consultations.
He told the audience that he was not at the meeting in connection with his political interest in 2019, but to formally acknowledge the support he enjoyed from his home state.
Makarfi said: “I am not here to declare anything. I am here to thank my party members (men and women) and of course, the executives for standing by me and supporting me when I was the Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of our party.”
He denied insinuations that his relationship with former Vice President Namadi Sambo had gone sour.
According to him, “I am also here to let you know and assuring you that the former Vice President and myself have no problem at all.
“We are working together to make ensure that PDP is returned to power in Kaduna come 2019,” he said.
Makarfi therefore enjoined the party members in the state to see themselves as leaders and work towards realising “our dream and aspiration,” stressing that, “we are all leaders. The fact that we have had and occupied positions does not mean we have exclusive rights over anybody.”
