ABIA POWER TUSSLE | INEC Accused of Issuing Fake Certificate

by on July 23, 2016

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, has faulted the certificate of return issued to Dr. Uche Ogah by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying it is fake.

According to the Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Chief Don Ubani who addressed newsmen yesterday in Umuahia, the non- capture of the date of the April 25th supplementary election on the COR makes the document fake.

He explained that while the April 11 and April 25 dates for the main and supplementary elections were aptly captured in the genuine certificate of return already issued to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, the date for the supplementary poll was copiously omitted in the one issued to Ogah .

The PDP Spokesman argued that since the April 11 main election did not produce any winner, hence the supplementary election, it would be an illegality to issue certificate of return to Ogah based on an inconclusive election.

Ubani said Ogah’s desperation to become governor at all cost made INEC to commit the “grievous omission which cannot be tolerated”.

“Desperation, conspiracy and pecuniary inducement blindfolded them from getting the right date”, Ubani said.

He further said that sacking Ikpeazu based on allegation of falsification of tax certificate was baseless and cruelty against him as he had been a public servant whose taxes were deducted from source before his emergence.

PDP said Ikpeazu remains the authentic governor of Abia State who was validly elected by the people as Ogah never participated in any election.
