Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Kogi State are divided over the alleged wasteful spending of N2billion by Governor Yahaya Bello.
The PDP said that the mega rally organised by Governor Bello was a colossal waste of the state resources.
According to the PDP, the rally cost the state N2billion at a time the salaries and pensions hangover were in the region of 22 months.
Consequently, the PDP described the action as “wicked, callous, inhuman and insensitive to the plight” of the people of Kogi.
In a statement issued by the PDP Director of Research and Documentation, Mr. Achadu Dickson, the party wondered why Bello would dole out N750,000 per unit in mobilisation, adding that council administrators were also directed to mobilize 500 persons at N5,000 per each when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not announced the commencement of campaigns.
Dickson said: “This rally has shown clearly that Governor Bello lacks the fear of God and does not understand the basic dynamics of governing a state.
“Bello’s spending of a whooping N2billion tax payers’ money to organise a rally that is of no significance to the well-being of Kogi people is disheartening and a glaring show of man’s inhumanity against man,” he said.
In its reaction, the APC said that it won the 2015 general elections in a landslide when the PDP was in power, adding that the Kogi Youth Arise Group, championed by the governor mobilised the youths to vote massively for President Muhammadu Buhari without state funds.
In a statement signed by the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, he said that what the PDP is afraid of telling the world is that they have lost the state forever.
