The women leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ohaozara Local Government Area, Mrs. Chinyere Okoro and over 700 others into the folds of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mrs. Okoro while defecting at the weekend said she was forced by her conscience to join PDP in order to support the governor in his mission to develop and empower the women and youths of the state.
Okoro who spoke at the Umunaga Uburu country home of Governor David Umahi during an Easter homage to the governor said her conscience had been pricking her into joining the PDP because of the on-going developments in the state also promised to support the governor’s re-election bid.
She said she decamped with over 700 women across the council to support the developmental agenda of governor Umahi and to continue to work for the unity of Okposi Okwu community and entire Okposi in general.
She called on her former colleagues in APC to dump the party, saying that the party has neither future nor plan for the people.
“I have come here with my women over 700 of them who were wallowing in ignorance dying out of envy and jealousy in APC. My conscience could not allow me to rest because each time I walk on the roads and other things the governor is doing, I am always ashamed of myself because I had no reason remaining in APC because it has no future ”
“I am tired of being in APC and today I am here to tell Your Excellency that we are back and we shall remain with you to ensure that you are reelected as our governor.”
Other APC stalwarts who defected to PDP alongside the women leader include Chief Onyiba Dandi Omoke and Engr. I .O Nweze.
Speaking, Chief Onyiba Omoke acknowledged that governor Umahi has done marvelously well in all sectors of the state economy and deserved to be supported and not to be opposed.
He said APC can’t match what the governor has achieved in office and pledged to work with the PDP to ensure that the governor is elected for the second term in office.
“Having watched all you have achieved within the few years you are in the office, we have come here today to pledge our loyalty and support for your administration and PDP as a party. This is because we have been living in the past by believing that APC has all it takes to develop the country. I have returned to PDP because APC is a fraud and a one chance party,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the traditional ruler of Okposi Okwu autonomous community, Eze Onyiba Chukwu Agwu said the community would stand with the governor to complete his second term in office.
