The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) on Friday named Dr. Muiz Adeyemi Banire, National Legal Adviser to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as son of former Governor of Anambra State, Emeka Etiaba, are among 21 to be conferred the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on July 21.
The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Ahmed Gambo Saleh, who announced this when he briefed newsmen on Friday, said the committee arrived at the decision, after its 119th meeting in Abuja.
A breakdown of the figure shows that there are three academicians and 18 advocates.
They also include: Dr Tahir Maman former Director-General of the Nigerian Law School; Dr. Akinpelu Theophilus Onigbinde; Ibrahim Kanje Bawa, Director, Legal Services, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); Sanuel Otseilu Zibiri; Adeniyi Ayodele Agegbenmire; and Prof Maxwell Michael Gidado, Dean, Faculty of Law, Nassarawa State University, who was Chief of Staff to Adamawa State acting governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri. He was also at various times between 1999 and 2007, Senior Special Assistant (Legal and Constitutional Matters) to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Also on the list are: Edward Kunav Ashiekaa; Benson Sopulu Nwankwo; Joseph Sunday Bamigboye; Patrick Ocheja Okolo; Aderibigbe Ade Adedeji; Emmanuel Chinwenwo Aguma; Abimbola Ibironke Akeredolu, the only female and former Attorney General of Ogun State; Olumuyiwa Akinboro; Gordy Uche, Uchechukwu Valentine Obi; Kehinde Kolawole Eleja; Prof. Paul Oboarenegbe Idornigie, a former General Counsel with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE); and Dr. Oladapo Olumide Olanipekun.
