Army Surrounds House of El-Zakzaky, Resisted by Members of Shi’ite Islamic Sect

Reports indicates that heavy fighting broke out late Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday between soldiers of Nigerian army and members of the Islamic movement of Nigeria after the army had surrounded the house of leader of the movement, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky

It will be recalled that the Army alleged an assassination attempt on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai when his convoy was attacked by the Shiite members.  Soldiers returned to El-Zakzaky’s residence in Gyallesu area of Zaria, at about 11pm and surrounded his house.  The soldiers were resisted by members of the movement as they tried to arrest their leader.

Residents of the area reported heavy gunfire. There were also reports of unconfirmed casualties in the late night attack.

    I begin to wonder what game Buhari is up to. The Army, DSS, the police and APC are becoming over-zealous. Has Buhari come to harass and punish Nigerians or to rule. May God help Nigeria

    I think Shiite is a religious group and they are civilians as well, where on earth do they get weapon to the extent of confronting Nigeria Army ?

    In any country where acclaimed civilians are getting access to d same level of weapons that is meant 4 only security system of a country (armed forces). . . Clashes like this,I’m afraid, cud be endless
