In a bid to spice things up, Big brother introduced four new housemates within the past two days. The pair of Venita Akpofure and Elozonam were introduced on Tuesday, Day 30. Another pair of Enkay and Joe were introduced on Wednesday, Day 31.
This plot twist came as a surprise to the old housemates. In as much as they tried to embrace their new reality, it was quite obvious that they couldn’t hide their displeasure of not really making progress in the ‘pepper dem gang’ edition.
They all signed up for this and were warned beforehand to be ready to accept whatever Biggie comes up with during the course of the reality show. Both housemates and viewers have gotten accustomed to the eviction of housemates on weekly basis. In past editions, permutations and predictions have been made from results of the first few nominations. Camps have been formed and viewers seemed to have made up their minds on the housemates to keep in the house till the final week of the show.
The introduction of the new housemates have altered the course of things. One question that has been on the lips of many is ”Aren’t these new housemates coming in with an unfair advantage?”. Most viewers have argued that they have sat like every other viewer outside the house to make some observations overtime. These new housemates have understood the pattern of behavior and relationships within the house. They have watched the diary sessions of some of the old housemates as well. With the amount of information they already have on the old housemates before entering the house, one would argue that they have been placed in a better position to adapt, tackle situations better and most importantly they know the viewers’ favorites to come out as winner of the reality show.
We have rolled out the pros. What of the cons? These housemates are coming in at a time when viewers have picked their favorite housemates. Some have even gone the extra mile to canvas for votes on behalf of their favorite housemates. These viewers turned fans, are now so committed that they text random people to vote for their preferred housemates, especially on social media. Are these fans expected to switch camps over night? These new housemates will most definitely come in with some friends and supporters from home, work place and social media. Will this existing fan base give them the sufficient vote count to keep them in the house when they are put up for possible eviction?
Have we even thought for a second that these could be fake housemates? What if Biggie has other plans? Could he introduce more housemates? Viewers can only hope to be adequately entertained. Housemates can only pray for the best. Housemates and viewers can grumble for as long as they want. This is Big Brother’s house and he makes the rules.
