Governor of Imo State , Emeka Ihedioha , on Thursday constituted a committee to probe the administration of his predecessor, Rochas Okorocha, by conducting forensic audit on the bank accounts of the state .
A statement issued in Owerri , the state capital , by the Secretary to the State Government , Uche Onyeagucha , said that the governor equally urged the committee to ascertain and document the locations of balances on all bank accounts operated by the state , its ministries , departments and agencies as at May 29 , 2019 .
The statement equally urged the committee members to review the operations of the State Board of Internal Revenue .
The statement read in part, “To ascertain and document the locations of and balances on all bank accounts operated by Imo State Government , its ministries , departments and agencies as at May 29 , 2019 .
“To review all financial transactions and where necessary a forensic audit with a view to ascertaining sources of funds and the application of same .
“To review such disbursements /applications of state resources to ascertain the propriety of charges levied on accounts, interest payment on loans and deposits where applicable , authorisation, etc.
“To review the operations of the Imo State Board of Internal Revenue with a view to recommending appropriate strategies to reposition the agency for better performance and sustained growth .
“To conduct governance / financial reviews of key agencies of government with a view to documenting all revenues generated or subventions / allocations between 2011 and 2019 .
“Reviewing the propriety of applications / disbursements of state resources between 2011 and 2019.
“Recommending measures that would strengthen internal controls and enhance the performance of those key agencies of government .”
Meanwhile , the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals , Federal Medical Centre , Owerri chapter , has called on Ihedioha to commence the revival of the moribund state hospitals in the state .
The group equally appealed to the governor to open doors of relationship with professional bodies like Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria , Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy and Nigerian Medical Association , among others , to guarantee safe medication , excellent clinical services and abolition of quackery and open drug markets in the state .
In a release signed by the chairman and secretary , Ezeugwu Clifford and Dr Nwafuru Solomon respectively , on Friday , the group urged the governor to look into the plight of workers in the state .
The group also appealed to Ihedioha to establish a centralised tax system to avoid multiple taxation on low income traders , business groups , employers of labour and private organisations .
The group , in the same vein, urged the governor to ensure adequate security in the state , and also put an end to the exploitation of tenants by landlords .
The statement said , “No nation grows without a tight and positive – driven security network.
“We know you have already designed your road map for the all -inclusive security network.
“The landlords are really exploiting the tenants and at times , they break the tenancy agreement .
“We strongly believe they can be prevailed upon to do the right thing and regulate their efforts to affordable level .”
