President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Laolu Akande, a journalist resident in the US, as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication to Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
Akande, a former editor of Saturday Tribune, was appointed on Monday, June 22, 2015, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Buhari is also expected to name other officials who will work in his administration this week.
Akande is also a pastor and a former North American Bureau Chief of The Guardian.
He reportedly moved to the US in 1997 due to harassment suffered under the administration of late dictator, General Sani Abacha.
He also worked briefly at the United Nations as a press officer and later as advocacy consultant between 2002 and 2004.
