President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday saluted Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Centre on his 20th year of priesthood, describing him as a fountain of inspiration to all Nigerians.
Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, lauded Father Mbaka for his “extraordinary intrepidity and remarkable patriotism.”
According to him, Mbaka is a great priest who is not afraid of speaking the truth, even at the risk of his own life or being hated by those in power.
President Buhari said he was overwhelmed by Father Mbaka’s sincerity and patriotism. He said the priest added his voice to support good governance and identified with ordinary Nigerians in the face of despair and uncertain future.
According to the president, adding one’s voice to make one’s country better has nothing to do with politics.
He said as the “conscience of the nation”, religious leaders cannot afford to be aloof or indifferent to the miseries of the people.
“Though honest opinions attract hostility from leaders detached from reality, history would be kind to Father Mbaka for courageously speaking truth to power, even at great risks”, he said.
The president prayed God to grant Father Mbaka more good health, long life and wisdom in the service of humanity.
