Buhari: NDDC acting MD declares war on Agbere community

Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Prof. Nelson Brambaifa, has apparently declared war on his Agbere community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State over the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Prof. Brambaifa, who was the state representative in the commission before he was appointed acting MD by President Buhari last month, stormed the community at the weekend with heavily armed soldiers, policemen and thugs vowing to stop at nothing to ensure victory for Buhari.
Sources said the new NDDC boss, who had not attracted even a single project to the state or the community since his appointment as Bayelsa representative and had been inaccessible to the community folks, caused a stir when he invaded the town with armed military men and some fierce-looking youths.
His action caused panic and tension in the town, prompting the monarch to summon him and some elders of the community who were spoiling for a confrontation with him.
At the meeting in the palace, Brambaifa was reported to have boasted that he had resources of nine states put together and was ready to deploy it in support of Buhari’s re-election.
He was said to have shared a huge amount of money among some youths who claimed to have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the community in a bid to shore up support for his party’s candidate.
“Prof. Brambaifa is not popular here and we are ready to resist him even with our blood. He cannot force us to support or vote for Buhari. He can spend public funds but he cannot buy our conscience or support. Our vote is not for sale.
“We are particularly worried that his first assignment as NDDC MD is to terrorise his own community because of Buhari. It is so unfortunate. Instead of helping to develop our town, he has vowed to kill his own kinsmen for a man who does not care whether we live or die,” one of the enraged elders said.
Agbere is a PDP stronghold in the state and the community of chairman of the state elders council, Chief Francis Doukpola, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Maxwell Ebibai, Senator John Brambaifa, Special Adviser to the Bayelsa Governor on Public Affairs, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the Sagbama council PDP chairman, Embeleakpo Alali as well as the council vice chairman, Vivian Prefa among other prominent indigenes of the town.
