A circular making rounds on social media has it that Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University’s final year college of medicine students are to resume school for their fifth Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) mock and main exams.
According to the circular prepared and signed on Tuesday May 12, the warm up exams consisting of five papers will run for five days starting from Monday May 25 with “Medicine Theory” as the first paper through to Friday May 29.
The main examination which will be written in seven days will commence the following month starting from Monday 15th. The faculty of clinical medicine board/examiners meeting will hold the next day after the last paper, Wednesday June 24.
According to investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, the students were told that the medical students hostel will be closed, hence they will have to find themselves temporary accommodation outside town as they prepare for the examination.
Apparently, this purported move violates the directives of both the state and federal government on closure of schools in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At this time, various states have placed restrictions on inter state movement as one of the measures to effectively manage the viral infection. How do the management of the university expect students living outside Anambra State to make it to Awka before the exams?
Hopefully, in the coming days the Vice Chancellor of the former Anambra State University, Professor Greg Nwakoby or a representative of the school will throw more light on the leaked circular.
