The Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos yesterday remanded a 57-year-old man, Kayode Olushoton, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
The accused is facing a two-count charge bordering on unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual assault, preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the suspect committed the alleged offence on January 31, 2017.
He said that the incident occurred at the residence of the accused at 12am.
According to the prosecutor, the accused met the girl at on the Lagos Island axis and lured her to his house.
The prosecutor said, “It was the screaming of the girl that alerted neighbours in the compound who came to her rescue. They held the man and invited the police who came to arrest the accused and took him to the station.
“The girl was later taken to the Lagos State General Hospital, Ikeja, for treatment where doctor examination revealed that the girl has been defiled with severe injury, in her private part.”
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under sections 137 and 261 (1), of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
