A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded a 61-year-old man, Jonkin Chibuzor Nkwuozor, for allegedly leading a dreaded kidnap gang in Rivers State.
Nkwuozor and two others were arraigned before the Magistrate Court by the Department of State Services on an eight-count charge which included murder of a DSS personnel.
Senior Magistrate B. Jamabo ordered the remand of the accused persons in prison custody till further notice.
Nkwuozor and the two other members of his gang, Okechukwu Collins Onyegbosi and Mike Eze Ogu were charged for kidnap of the DSS personnel Reuben Uzoma, his wife, their two children and his sister in-law on November 16, 2016 along Ngor-Okpala/Etche Road in Rivers State.
The accused persons who later released the wife, children and sister-in-law of the deceased DSS personnel in their custody later made effort to sell the officer’s Toyota Venza car before they were arrested by men of the DSS.
The late DSS personnel, Uzoma shot dead two of the kidnappers when they flagged down his vehicle on the Ngor-Okpalla/Etche Road. “Unknown to him, one of the kidnappers came from behind him and killed him with a Pump action gun,” a security source said.
