Arik Air has suspended 90% of their workforce due to a massive fall in revenue.
The COVID-19 pandemic which has led to drastic reduction in flight frequency has caused a downturn in revenue generated by the airline.
In reaction to this, Nigeria’s major carrier which has suffered a 98% decline in revenue, has retained only 10% of the workforce. This 10% will reportedly receive only 20% of their April salaries.
As announced by the Chief Executive Officer, Captain Roy Ilegbolu, the suspension till further notice will take effect from May 1st 2020. Due to the uncertainty of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and how quickly it will be fought to a standstill, the Airline’s position on the recent suspension will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
Technically, this can be likened to a suspension of almost all the workers of the Airik Airline with almost no salary benefits.
