The House of Representatives has called on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, to mobilise the Police to dislodge the invading herdsman in Ossissa Community in Delta State and urgently intensify efforts at ensuring that peace is returned to the Community.
This followed a matter of urgent national importance on the floor of the House moved by Hon Ossai Nicholas Ossai.
Debating the motion, Hon Ossai noted with grief, the latest invasion that took place on the 11th of May 2017, where suspected herdsmen laid siege and invaded the Ossissa Community at about 6.30 pm and beheaded a Commercial Motorcycle rider identified as Udoka Ossai and further killed six other people who are indigenes of Ossissa, Utagbo-Uno and Aballa Communities in Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West Local Government Areas of Delta State.
He informed the House that presently, apprehension has gripped residents of Ossissa Community following alleged sporadic gunshots in their farmlands and threats of further attack by suspected herdsmen, who had over the last few years incessantly attacked the Ossissa Community by destroying their farmlands and had constantly unleashed mayhem on the innocent indigenes.
The Lawmaker observed that in all reported attacks in Ossissa Community, the herdsmen had deployed dangerous weapons, sophisticated and high profile guns such as AK47 which were allegedly used.
He disclosed the present situation indicates that tension has taken over the entire Community of Ossissa.
“Youths have taken it upon themselves to defend their Community since the Government has not done anything to salvage the situation, which he said will further escalate the present crisis.
