Ex- Nigerian international goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph has a soothing word for Wolfsburg of Germany striker, Victor Osimhen who is recuperating from the surgery: “Get well soon. Do not worry about such missed chances to play in the Super Eagles. Remain positive and believe in future opportunities.”
Osimhen has been dropped from the list of players for Nigeria’s friendly matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London later this month due to injury.
The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup goal king would wait for a future opportunity to fight for a shirt in the Super Eagles after Austria Vienna striker Olanrewaju Kayode was called up to replace him by Nigeria Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr.
Although the Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medalist decried the inability of the striker to have claimed a permanent place in the national team, he however said that Osimhen has age on his side and should be calm.
“It is very unfortunate that Osimhen has been having this injury trouble. Any time he is called to the national team, one issue or the other will stop him. He is a very skillful player and we saw him at the 2015 World Cup in UAE.
“He is a great player and remains the future of the Super Eagles. We believe he has something to offer the national team that is why he is a recurring name on the list players for national assignment.”
Speaking on the forthcoming friendly matches against Burkina Faso and Senegal in London, Dosu commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for arranging the games, adding that the Super Eagles will need some friendlies before the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon in August.
“The Game against Cameroon will be great. The Eagles need more friendly matches ahead, especially with the introduction of some new players in the team,” he said.
