Super Eagles caretaker coach, Samson Siasia has assured that Nigeria would not be missing at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The coach, who has returned to his U-23 Olympics team job, after guarding the senior national team to the ill-fated Gabon 2017 AFCON qualifying matches against the Pharaohs of Egypt, noted that the Super Eagles can now boast of having a solid team, despite the fact that they were not able to qualify for the continental championship.

Siasia, who submitted his reports for the matches yesterday to the NFF technical department, also expressed his readiness to take over the Super Eagles job, if considered by the federation, adding that with the caliber of players he had put together for the Super Eagles, the team has a brighter future to return Nigeria to football glory.

“It is God that gives work. Of course why not, I will be ready to guard Nigeria to pick the ticket for Russia if I am called upon. This is a new team that is working in progress. With only eight days, we stayed together, these guys played the way they did. If they stay together for a longer period, I assure you the future will be brighter. But I want to thank Nigerians for the support. It was very overwhelming and I must appreciate that,” he said.

Siasia however, noted that he is more focused on the U-23 job, stressing that he has also submitted his programmes to the NFF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He harped on the need for early camping, stressing that he must capitalize on the team’s impressive performance in Brazil to build a strong team for the Olympics.

“Before the end of this week, we are likely to return to camp. We need to start on time because we do not have much time to train before the Olympics proper. We have to focus on the home-based players for now. This is because they are the real players we have at hand before we can talk of the foreign- based ones who we are not too sure of securing their release.
