Edo Speaker Escapes Imprisonment Over Failure to Swear in PDP Representative

The Speaker Edo State House of As­sembly, Hon Victor Edoror, yesterday escaped been convicted to prison for contempt of court fol­lowing the refusal to swear in the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Etsako West II Constituency representative, Sylvanus Eruaga, after been declared winner by the court.
Hon Edoror, who was summoned by the Court of Appeal on Monday to ex­plain why he should not be convicted to jail for flouting court orders, appeared in the court through the state Solicitor-General, Mr Olu­wole Iyamu. Mr Lawson Ugiagbe, the Clerk of the House who was also ordered to appear before the court was also represented by the State Solicitor-General.
Also joined as respon­dents were the candidate of the APC, Gowon Yakubu, Independent National Elec­toral Commission, and state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were represented by Ken Mozia, (SAN) and Matthew Ugwuocha.
