Ekweremadu Won’t be Intimidated by ‘Meddlesome Interpolers’

by on July 6, 2015

The Igbo think-tank, Aka Ikenga, on Monday July 6, 2015 said that no amount of threats or intimidation will make Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, resign his position.

President of the group, Goddy Uwazurike, said Ekweremadu’s the election must stand since he was duly elected on the floor of the Senate by his colleagues in a tightly contested race.

He therefore warned those he referred to as ‘meddlesome interlopers’ to steer clear of the affairs of the lawmakers.

It would be recalled that some aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) senators loyal to Ahmad Lawan, the party’s candidate for Senate presidency, last weekend demanded Ekweremadu’s immediate resignation.

The aggrieved lawmakers, under the auspices of the Senate Unity Forum, said it was one of the conditions that would make the faction to recognise Bukola Saraki as the President of the Senate.

But, according to Uwazurike, the senators calling for Ekweremadu’s resignation were being sponsored by some individuals outside the senate for their personal ambitions.

“The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was elected by the senators freely on the floor of the Senate. He was not elected outside of parliament.

“So, what is the business of meddlesome interlopers outside who wants to dictate to the senators on how to go about their affairs? They should bow their heads in shame.

“Ekweremadu must not resign because he was duly elected by the senators in a keenly contested election. It is a big shame for somebody outside to ask him to resign.  If that person knows he has influence, why can’t he go and contest to be senator?

“No part of the world will ever tolerate what is going on where a meddlesome interloper will sit in his house and determine who will become the senate president or not”.

“I condemn any call for his resignation or removal. Senators must work without any fear. All those who are calling for Ekweremadu’s removal must go home and face their business and let the lawmakers do their job,” he said
