Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives member, Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has absolved the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the federal government of blame in the party botched National Convention in Port Harcourt.
Representing Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency, Edo State, Hon. Agbonayinma, heaped the blame of the botched convention and the crisis rocking the party on the PDP governors, whom he described as emperors.
The lawmaker, in a statement accused some of the party’s state governors as being the brain behind the botched National Convention of the Party in Port-Harcourt and not APC or the federal government as being alleged in some quarters.
He described the statement credited to some party’s leaders and governors that the APC and the federal government used incumbency power to direct armed security personnel to seal off the Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, venue of the Convention in the early hours of last wednesday to prevent the exercise from taking place as outrageous.
He said: “It is outrageous to push the very problems we created by ourselves on others.
“APC has its own woes but on the impunity in our party, PDP we should not blame the APC led federal government. Get it right, APC is not on trial in this matter. All blames should be directed to some emperor governors in our party, who are out to hijack the party for their selfish interests.”
Rather than blaming the security operatives for sealing off the venue, the lawmaker said that they should be commended for proactive measures, in preventing impunity and disobedience of existing court order, adding, “we should commend the security personnel for being on the side of the law, nobody is above the law any where in the world and Nigeria’s case must not be an exception.”
