The High Commission of Canada to Nigeria today revealed a donation of $750,000 by the Agency to help women’s rights organisations increase efforts towards ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria.
This is coming as rape cases hit an all time high, with hundreds of cases reported in Nigeria in the past few months.
The Canadian Commission expressed sorrow over the increase in cases of rape and molestation in the country during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Canada is pleased to announce an additional $750K for its Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria project”, the Commission stated.
The commission further said it will partner with Action Aid Nigeria to ensure women’s rights organisations “ramp-up efforts to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, which has worsened during COVID-19”.
