Nigerian champions, Enyimba, mauled their Burundian counterparts, Vital’O 5-1 in the first leg, first round of the Caf Champion League on Sunday.
Stephen Chukwude and Mfon Udoh helped themselves with two goals each while Ugochukwu Leonard came off the bench to put gloss on their victory. Hussein Shaban scored for Vital’O.
On 21 minutes, Chukwude, who joined Enyimba in the off-season from FC Ifeanyiubah, scored from Pyagbara’s assist.
Seven minutes later, Udoh curled in the ball from the edge of the box past Vital’O goalkeeper, Mac Arthur Arakaza to double Enyimba’s lead.
Chukwude, it was again, who scored Enyimba’s third goal. The striker fired right-footed from the edge of the box.
Just before the break, Vital’O made an attempt at goal. Laudit Mavugo’s auadacious effort was off target.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Udoh got his brace. This time Chukwude turned provider.
It was easy sailing for Enyimba until their backline was breached on 76 minutes. Shaban scored what turned out to be a consolation for Vital’O from Emma Anyanwu’s error.
Five minutes to time, Leonard put the icing on the cake as Enyimba will now look to travel to Bujumbura, capital of Burundi, for the return fixture with hope of having done enough to reach the next round of the Champions League.
