Ex-Rivers LGA Chairman Remanded in Prison Custody Over Murder

A Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt Wednesday, remanded in prison custody, the former Chairman of Asari -Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State over alleged murder.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Musa Kumo, had dragged the accused to court over the alleged murder of one Smart Soberekon in Buguma commu­nity in Asari-Toru LGA.
The Chief Magistrate, I. O. Agbesor remanded Amachree in prison custody until Thursday, for ruling on the issue of jurisdiction in the matter.
The accused, Mr Ojukaye Flag Amachree, is facing two-count charge of conspiracy and murder in suit number PMC/750c/2016.
The charge states: “That you, Ojukaye Flag Amachree with oth­ers now at large, on the 11th day of April, 2016 at Buguma, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit a felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an of­fence punishable under Section 516 (a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
“That you, Ojukaye Flag Ama­chree with others now at large at the above mentioned date, place and in the aforementioned Mag­isterial District did shoot and kill one Smart Soberekon and thereby committed an offence punish­able under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.”
