FIFA RANKING| Super Eagles at an all Time Low

by on April 8, 2016

Nigeria dropped to an all-time low in the FIFA rankings as the Super Eagles are now rated 14th in Africa and 67th in the world.
The Super Eagles went five steps down the ladder in the latest ranking released yesterday by the football governing body, FIFA.
The slide is a direct result of Nigeria’s performance in the 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifying matches against Egypt last month.
The implication of this is that Nigeria may be handed a daunting 2018 World Cup qualifying draw in June.
Egypt, who stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2017 AFCON, shot up nine places to 44 in the world and are now among the top five teams in Africa.
This latest ranking will now enhance Egypt’s chances to be among the top five seeds when the World Cup draw is staged on June 24.
Nigeria, on the other hand, could now find itself in a World Cup qualifying group that has at least two teams better ranked than them currently.
The Super Eagles will now need to play better rated teams in the FIFA friendly window in June to improve their ranking before the draw.
In the global ranking, Argentina lead the way followed by Belgium, Chile, Colombia and Germany.
African top 10
1) Algeria
2) Ivory Coast
3) Ghana
4) Senegal
5) Egypt
6) Cape Verde Islands
7) Tunisia
8) Congo DR
