by on June 2, 2016

Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Mr Sam Olumekun, has disclosed that the commission is fully prepared to kick-off the Continuous Voters Registration to herald the September governorship election in the state.
Mr Olumekun, who stated this yesterday in Benin City said the exercise will involve individuals from 18 years and above. He noted that the exercise will capture the names of electorates in the latest list of eligible voters to enable them perform their civic responsibilities.
The REC, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the commission, Mrs Sule Priscillia in a telephone expressed readiness on the Continuous Voters Registration process which would allow those who had earlier been registered but were denied the permanent voters card, to pick them from the commission’s head office in Benin City.
He stated that at the end of the exercise, the commission would provide individuals and groups the opportunity for claims and objections, adding that all figures would aggregate and actual fig-ures or final list of authentic voters would be published or made public for use during the polls.
Olumekun assured that steps have been taken to ensure that the process is hitch-free such that complaints are eliminated. He further declared that the notice of election for the state governor-ship election in line with Section 30, Sub-section 1 of the Electoral Act 2010 provides that such announcement will be made not later than 90 days before the exercise.
