The British High Commissioner is in a secret meeting with the DG of Nigerian Intelligence Agency, the Attorney General of the Federation, the IG of Police and the National Security Adviser over a proposed secret visit by the British High Commissioner to meet with Nnamdi Kanu in Kuje prison.
The British Government represented by the High Commissioner has requested to meet with Nnamdi Kanu, a British citizen being held against court orders by the Nigerian Government over charges of Treason secretly.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra was arrested by the Nigerian Department of State Security operatives on the 14th of October, 2015 and was granted bail by a magistrate court in Abuja. However, the Nigerian Government continues to hold Kanu in detention against court orders even when Mr Kanu met all bail conditions.
The British Commissioner has reminded the Nigerian Government of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention in 1964 which Nigeria was a party to. The article grants every British citizen the right to consular services by the British government and failure of the Nigerian Government to allow that would lead to a breakdown of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
A secret visit to Kuje prison is being arranged by the Nigerian Government for the British High Commissioner.
