The Federal High Court, in Gusau, led by Justice Fatima Murtala, has stopped the PDP from holding congresses in Zamfara State, pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
The Zamfara State chairman of the party, Senator Hassan Nasiha, filed a petition seeking the court to stop the National Working Committee (NWC) and the state congress committee of the party from conducting congresses to elect new leaders.
He claimed that his tenure did not expire.
Counsel to Nasiha, Lasco P. Muyiwa, said they were in court to seek for interpretation of Section 47 sub-section 1 which stipulates: “All national, zonal, state, local government area and ward officers of the party shall hold office for a term of four years and shall be eligible for re-election for another term and no more.”
Nasiha said his term in office will end on September 29, 2018.
