FLASH| Uganda Thrown Out of U-20 AFCON For Age Cheating

by on May 14, 2016

Uganda has been thrown out of next year’s U20 AFCON after they fielded an ineligible player, who has two different birth dates.

Uganda defeated Rwanda 3-2 on aggregate in the AFCON qualifiers, winning 2-1 at home and drawing 1-1 in Rwanda.

Rwanda had protested against four Uganda players, arguing they were not eligible for the age grade competitions.

But according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), it has been discovered that only Aheebwa James has two birth dates: 19/5/1998 on his passport and 27/3/1997 on his Inter-clubs registration. Rwanda will now face Egypt in the second round of the qualifiers. Kenya have also been disqualified from the same competition after they fielded five ineligible players against Sudan.
