Big Money: Forbes Names Dr Dre Highest Paid Hip Hop Act

by on September 30, 2014
Dr Dre has been named the Highest Paid Hip Hop Act of 2014 by Forbes magazine. According to the mag, the producer took in an estimated $620 million, the highest amount ever earned by a musician in one year.

A large slice of the pie came when Apple bought out the mogul’s headphone maker and music service Beats.

As a result of the $3 billion sale, he not only achieved “the highest yearly earnings total of any musician ever evaluated by Forbes,” but also raked in more money than all the rappers’ earnings combined on Forbes list.

Diddy and Jay Z ($60 million) tied at number two on the list, followed by Drake ($33 million) and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ($32 million).

Forbes compiles the list by looking at income from touring, record sales, publishing, merchandise sales, endorsements and other ventures.
