“Should APC capture the Federal government we should be prepared for a season of surrogate electorates; whereby a select group of myopic individuals predetermine the destinies of the citizenry without recourse to due process and collective will.”
For the umpteenth time the events of last week validate my belief that APC lacks any ability to win elections.
The speaker of the house of representative in a manner of robbing Peter to pay Paul decamped to the APC from PDP. Why this raised many questions—constitutionally and morally, I would like to overlook the obvious in consequences and focus on a telling sign of what to expect in 2015.
From all indications there is only one way of APC ruling this country—that’s through a contracted leadership. The mercantile posture of the All Progressive Congress has over and over again been highlighted in their manner of leadership assumption. They have either come to power through judicial handouts or contracted alliance.
In the basic analysis of Hon. Tambuwal’s decamping, the bare-faced reality is that Tambuwal lacks the political collateral to further his ambition in the coming political dispensation. Neither would the political slip that spilled him to the house speakership in 2011 be allowed nor is his state going to give him any relevance, post 2015.
Hence, his plight should be pitied when he brought his “widow’s might” to the table in exchange for a secured future. My fear is not for Mr Speaker and his cohorts in the house. My fear is for the APC tactics of pre-emptive assumptions. The governorship of Sokoto state is ceded away—without recourse to neither the electorates nor merits standard— to Mr Tambuwal in exchange for decamping while still in position of number four citizen. Should APC capture the Federal government we should be prepared for a season of surrogate electorates; whereby a select group of myopic individuals predetermine the destinies of the citizenry without recourse to due process and collective will.
Pray, what is it worth to the APC occupying the number one position in the race towards 2015? A simple psychoanalytic assessment shows the parochial sentiments of the APC to aspire beyond the limits of morality in one breathe and cry foul if the same dose were given to them in a reversed transaction. APC rather than appeal to the electorates with credible manifestoes are busy negotiating with political buccaneers. I find this very suspect. How far would this tactic help them? I hope they can contract the Senate president and ultimately sign on the president of the federal republic, only then would their dream of ruling Nigeria become realized.
From Ekiti to Osun, Sokoto to Adamawa APC are yet to prove their onions in winning elections, maybe in contracted political take-overs yes, as in corporate world which is about the only model domiciled in the kitty of the APC. But the collective will of Nigerians is beyond the manipulations of some corporate warlords who see every situation as a business transaction. Our rights to determining our destiny is inalienable and that is what we must resist from any group or individuals.
