Giroud’s Inspired Comeback Gifts Chelsea A Win Over Southampton

by on April 14, 2018

Olivier Giroud came from the bench to score a brace to help Chelsea come from behind to deepen Southampton’s relegation fears.

The Frenchman replaced Alvaro Morata midway through the second half with the Blues down 2-0 but a header and a low strike, coupled with a smart finish from Eden Hazard ensured an away victory.

Southampton were aiming for their first Premier League win under new boss Mark Hughes and looked on course after goals from Dusan Tadic and Jan Bednarek only to suffer a late collapse.

That is a savage blow to Southampton. They played so well for the first 69 minutes and deserved to lead 2-0, but the substitute Olivier Giroud inspired another crazy comeback in this memorable week of football. He scored two fine goals, either side of an equaliser from Eden Hazard, and Southampton could not come back from the Chelsea comeback. They stay in the relegation zone and are running out of time.
