Google’s Self-driving Cars Cleared For Road Testing

by on May 15, 2015

Google has announced that it has been given the green light to road test its self-driving cars.

The buggy-like vehicles will be trialled in California this summer, but the prototype models will retain physical controls in accordance with road laws
The compact cars, which have a top speed of just 25 miles per hour, have already been put through their paces vigorously on Google’s test tracks.
Google is hoping that the vehicles will eventually reduce road accidents, tackle traffic congestion, and help people with mobility problems get around.
A human driver will oversee the upcoming trials from the inside the vehicles, but the web giant is planning to move onto driverless testing in the future.
Google has been experimenting with driverless automobiles for several years, originally testing the technology inside conventional cars.
