Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has held talks with the suspended Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir David Lawal in Abuja.
Ayade arrived at Lawal’s residence at 5.22pm last Monday in the company of a few of his aides and left the house 30 minutes later.
None of the aides of Ayade and Lawal was willing to comment on the meeting when contacted.
Ayade who was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been rumoured to be contemplating joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recently, the state chapter of the PDP expressed its support for the Court of Appeal-anointed party National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
The Cross River PDP Chairman, Edim Inok, had pledged his members’ loyalty to Sheriff, a few hours after another official of the party had said that the state was loyal to the Ahmed Markarfi faction.
The Executive Chairman of Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and close confidant of the governor, Dr. Stephen Odey, denied any plan by Ayade to defect to APC.
He asked: “Why are people eager to see the governor go to APC? His Excellency is supporting President Muhammadu Buhari as a Nigerian; he cannot be fighting Mr. President like some other governors.
