Heineken Lokpobiri responsible for acts of Violence in Niger Delta, Call him to Order – PDP to Buhari

Citing instances where acts of violence in the Niger Delta region have been linked to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Heineken Lokpobiri, the Bayelsa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to call him to order.

The party expressed dismay that some recent violent activities of the minister in Bayelsa State and others in riverine communities in the neighbouring Delta State had been ignored by the security agencies.

Only recently, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, alerted President Buhari, the security agencies and others Nigerians to the dangerous activities of Lopkobiri and other All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, which without doubt, are inimical to peace, security and development of the state.

In a statement issued in Yenagoa, the state capital, by the PDP Chairman, Chief Cleopas Moses, said that Nigerians who were agitated and troubled by the grave allegations would have expected a reassuring response from the minister.

The PDP said that Lokpobiri’s response had only deepened the worries about the spectre of violence being masterminded by him and his cohorts in Bayelsa.

Moses said that the PDP was disturbed that Lokpobiri had “remained true to himself as he continues to maintain a sordid reputation that seems inseparably linked to the horrors of violence in Bayelsa.

“His defence, at best, cuts the image of a guilty man in desperation to reconcile contradictions with a contrived appearance of innocence.

“In his pitiable response to the governor’s claim that he was behind the heinous activities of a deadly militant, Kareowei, who was fingered in the heinous activities on the waterways of Ekeremor and some communities in Delta State, Lokpobiri denied ever meeting him.”

Moses said that Lokpobiri lied that Kareowei even threatened him at Ekeremor by shooting into the river when he (Lokpobiri) visited his home in January

“This explanation and the contradiction in Lokpobiri’s defence only strengthened the suspicion of complicity in acts of destabilisation against the state,” Moses said.

The PDP therefore called on President Buhari to arrest Lokpobiri and act on information at their disposal about his complicity in arming criminal elements in Bayelsa.
