The Governing council of the Kwara State University, KWASU has dissociated itself from the recent appointment of Prof. Kenneth S. Adeyemi as the acting Vice-Chancellor of KWASU and the directive that the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRasheed NaAllah should proceed on terminal leave while he is yet to complete his tenure which expires on 27th July, 2019.
The Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Professor Saka Nuru, frowned at the decision of the Governor Abdul Fatai led Kwara state government, describing it as unlawful.
“This directive is not in tune with the University’s law and is going to lead to distraction from the Rain Semester examination and the process appointment of principal officers that are currently in progress’’, he said.
He further added that the action of the state Government is illegal and the Governing Council of KWASU has no hand in the directive.
It will be recalled that there has been allegations that for the fear of being arrested and prosecuted by the anti-graft agency, EFCC upon completion of his tenure, the Kwara state government has been making overtures to make the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah sign the unremitted subventions due to the school.
In a statement issued by concerned stakeholders recently, they alleged that the State government has failed in the last four years to provide subvention for the institution.
The statement: “the VC of kwasu has been in the hiding because of the outgoing kwara state government Insistence that he should sign 4 years Subvention Document that he was never given to run the school. The University authority that has been running the school on its Internally generated revenue, has not been taking any Subvention, but information at the disposal of Amebo confirmed that the state government has been budgeting for this in its annual budget with no iota of disbursement, but being pocketed by the government officials, particularly by the state “revenue consumer ” who has turned the state to his “ATM”. The VC, who has been taking care of both the staff and the students through the school’s Internal Funds, has never been financially benefiting from the state government.”
“While the VC’s tenure lapses in July, this year, the VC who is known for his undisputed integrity, sees this fraudulent cohesion by the Fatah government as not only a big betray of his conscience but the state, as a son of the soil, who is considerate of the future of both his family and the citizens of the state in entirety. While the VC’s honesty, transparency and above all, the fear of God, coupled with his good family background is commendable, we implore all Kwarans serving under this Corrupt outgoing government to follow suit and borrow leaf from this candid and commendable act of a man of integrity.’’
‘’Some of the staff and students interviewed, who pleaded anonymity, praised the kwasu VC’s honesty and management acumen. They were of the view that the outgoing government wants to rest the embezzled funds in the university’s account to safe it from the EFCC investigation that has been on for sometimes now. It will be recalled that the state has been involved in gross mismanagement of kwara state funds which makes its functionaries running helter skelter to see that all monies purportedly embezzled are rested in certain particular account to deceive the EFCC on its investigation.”The statement concluded.
