Judges Should not Vacate office over mere allegations by DSS – SAN

by on October 24, 2016

Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) has kicked against the call by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on the seven judges arrested by the DSS for alleged corruption to resign their offices until their cases were resolved.

Olanipekun said though he is in support of the NBA President, Mr. Mahmoud Abubakar, in his view that the Bench should be rid of corruption, but added that the integrity of the judiciary will be greatly demeaned if judges vacate office over mere allegations by the DSS.

The NBA had asked the National Judicial Council (NJC) to order the affected judges to vacate their seats to allow the issues to be resolved.
Speaking in Ikere-Ekiti at the weekend after being conferred with the chieftaincy title of Asiwaju of Ikereland, Olanipekun declared that any President and governor accused of corruption should also step down, so that the policy can be implemented across board.

He promised to use his new status to unite all the warring factions in the town, especially the supremacy battle between Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu and the Olukere of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin.
