Kidnappers Who Starved Their Victim to Death, Arrested

The Enugu State Police Anti Kidnap Unit has arrested three notorious kidnappers at their hideouts in Lagos and 9th mile, Enugu state. The suspects identified as Ekene Nwankwo, Emeka Igwe, Chidi Agu had conspired together with one Ebuka Okonkwo to abduct their victim at gunpoint.

The victim (Ekene Okonkwo) was returning from a traditional marriage in his vehicle when he was abducted and taken to a nearby bush by old Nsukka Abor Road 9th mile corner Enugu where the suspects tied his hands and legs with a rope and demanded a ransom of ten million Naira from his family.

Mr. Ekene Nwankwo was denied food and water for seven days and was beaten severally while in Captivity.  The prolonged starvation and beating made the captive weak, a situation that further resulted in his death. When Ekene Nwankwo, Emeka Igwe, Chidi Agu noticed that their captive had died, they fled and hid in their hideouts.


After Investigations, The Enugu State Police Anti Kidnap Unit launched an attack on suspects at their hideout in 9th mile and Lagos respectively which left suspects fatally injured during a shoot out that ensued.

The dead body of the victim has been recovered from the bush by the operatives and deposited at a nearby hospital for further medical Investigative procedures.
