Lagos Settles Pension Entitlements of 243 Retirees

by on March 15, 2016

The Lagos State Government said it has paid N904 million pension entitlements to its 243 retirees for the months of February 2016.
The recent payment has brought the number of retirees paid in the last seven months (August 2015 – February 2016) to 2,652, while the total sum is N11.556 billion.
The beneficiaries are retirees from the mainstream civil service, local governments, state universal basic education, teachers and pension office and other parastatals of the state government.
The Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Mrs. Folashade Onanuga, at the presentation of the 24th Retirement Benefit Bond Certificates to the concerned retirees in Lagos, advised the retirees to be very careful of “unscrupulous elements” who might want to deprive them of their entitlements through lofty business ideas.
She appealed to the beneficiaries to be wary of fraudsters, who put calls through to retirees informing them of alleged short payments in their entitlements, requesting for a token payment into a specific bank account so that the short fall can be paid by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in Abuja.
Onanuga emphasised that no retiree in Lagos State Service has accrued rights to collect from Federal Government and any one requesting to help process an entitlement that is non-existent is just a scammer.
She said in LASPEC, terminal entitlements are processed strictly on merit, based on time and nature of exit, adding that anyone who offers inducement to any of the commission’s staff for quick processing of entitlements is just wasting the resources available to him/her.
