The N75 million social media campaign fund allegation leveled against Gbenga Sesan, the Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) by Adeoye Adelaja took a new twist on Tuesday as the face behind the allegation confirmed to BREAKING TIMES on Tuesday that he had sufficient information at his disposal pointing to the fact that Sesan, alongside other popular pro-APC social media influencers collected the sum of N75 million from the APC presidential campaign as part payment for services which include, but not limited to deflecting bad publicity against General Muhammadu Buhari, then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC); advancing a disruptive communication campaign targeted at President Goodluck Jonathan; disproving evidences that link Buhari to his dark past as Nigeria’s former military dictator as well as sponsoring lies against the PDP campaign in the social media.
It will be recalled that one of the prominent platforms used by the Buhari campaign for its social media work was the Facts Check website allegedly established by Gbenga Sesan for the Buhari campaign.
In a phone interview with BREAKING TIMES on Tuesday, Adelaja disclosed that ten (10) social media influencers led by Gbenga Sesan and Japheth Omojuwa were recruited for this assignment.
Meanwhile, Gbenga Sesan has initiated legal action over the allegation. According to Sesan, in a set of tweets, his lawyer has written Adelaja pressing defamation charges.
In his reaction, Adelaja dismissed the threat of legal action as a face-saving attempt by Sesan in the face of an impending public embarrassment.
According to him, “They have said a lot about the ruling PDP government as opposition and nobody threatened them with a lawsuit. I see this new style of lawsuit threat as an instrument the APC wants to employ in shutting down critics.”
