The President of the Federation, Muhammadu Buhari has recently been urged by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to dismiss the Minister Of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, over alleged fraud and other corrupt activities encircling the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
PDP in a statement endorsed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, also charged the President to get rid of the highly corrupt Interim Management Commitee (IMC) of NDDC, where their officials easily syphon funds at the detriment of area that is supposed to be developed using such money, under President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s administration.
According to the Party, “the height and level of corruption, ignorance and looting of funds perpetuated at NDDC’s management by its Minister, and IMC is indeed a thorn and a humiliation, not only to the President’s adminstration, the entirety of Niger Delta Region and to the preservation of National interest”.
“The probe into the activities at NDDC, that was earlier organized by President Buhari is no doubt a welcomed initiative, just that we feel that the investigation won’t produce a meaningful result due to the Commission, still spearheaded by both Minister Akpabio and IMC”, they noted
The party stated that suspending the Minister and other members of IMC’s commission for their heinous crimes committed would pave way for better things to come for the indigenes of Niger Delta Region; and will do well also to ensure that they don’t meddle with the documents that will incriminate them.
The move of trying to apprehend the former Acting Managing Director of NDDC, Joy Nunieh after she threatened to reveal majority of their secrets, was simply an attempt to silence her and stop her from revealing the truth further to people of Niger Delta and Nigerians alike.
Questions were also posed by Nigerians, towards the conduct of the current Acting Managing Director of IMC, Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei, who walked out on committee constituted by the House of Representatives to investigate the corruption at NDDC.
The party bemoans the siege by security operatives on Nunieh’s residence; describing it as a shameful and an attempt of silencing her. “To that regard, we call on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to take charge of proceedings and get the culprits behind it.
We also urge IGP Adamu to protect Nunieh and other witnessess willing to testify against the misdeeds of corrupt members of NDDC, and its ministers.
