Nigerians Protest Chloroquine “Cure” Declaration, Call Out Bauchi Governor

Several Nigerians have protested Chloroquine endorsement as Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed authorizes chloroquine for Covid-19 cure.

Controversy has emerged as Governor Bala insists that chloroquine is a healthy solution to the world wide pandemic.

Governor Bala accepts full responsibility for any consequences as a result of the drug consumption. He made this known in his update on Covid-19 in the state at the Government house, Bauchi on wednesday

Governor Bala has posited that he was cured of the Corona virus with a mixture of chloroquine and Zithromax. According to him, this boosted his confidence in the performance of the drug.

This is in light of the fact that Governor Bala Mohammed was the first identified as infected with Covid-19 in the state.

Nigerians have taken to social media to protest the development. Several have cited the Governor’s lack of medical training as a major obstacle in his authorizing any drug as a cure.

This controversy further stirs up similar animosity generated by president of the United States, Donald Trump.

President Trump was heavily criticized in March for recommending Chloroquine without medical backing.

Side effects of chloroquine overdose have been reported to range from blindness to death.

Several social media handles have been used to express disapproval at the Governor’s blatant declaration. Many have cited his authorization of the drug as potentially dangerous to indigenes of Bauchi and Nigerians in general.

In his defence, Governor Bala Mohammed insists that he is working in accordance with his medical team.

“Our medical team is using their own ingenuity to use chloroquine and Zithromax to treat the patients, even though in some places, they said it is against the protocol,” he said.
