Nigeria’s champion of champions, FC IfeanyiUbah are leaving no stone unturned in their effort to strengthen the team ahead of their Confederation Cup campaign as the management of the club yesterday announced the signing of 2016 NPFL hotshot, Godwin Obaje for three years.
Obaje was instrumental to Wikki Tourists’ finishing third on the NPFL log, one place ahead of the Anambra Warriors.
“Obaje has joined IfeanyiUbah after he could not secure a foreign deal,” according club source.
He was the NPFL goal king last season after he scored 18 goals for Wikki Tourists.
The Anambra Warriors will play Wikki Tourists on Sunday; the striker will not be part of the squad as he will watch proceedings from the stands.
He was linked to several advertised moves to foreign clubs which fell through.
He was first at top Russian club Spartak Moscow and it was understood he failed a medical there.
He then moved to Etoile du Sahel and appeared to have signed a long-term deal only for the Tunisian club to later pull the plug on the transfer without any explanation.
Obaje was also at another Tunisian team, Club Africain, who did not seem impressed with the striker after some drills.
He could also not pursue reported interest in Turkey after the agent suddenly stopped his contact with the Kaduna-born striker.
