Super Eagles forward, Obafemi Martins, whose transfer to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua from the Seattle Sounders has been completed will earn more than double his earnings playing in the free-spending Chinese league, according to reports.
Martins was on $3 million a year at Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders, but after he has paid tax, he took home about $2 million.
The experienced striker hit a gold mine in China as he will earn $6.6 million at the club for the 2016 season, according to Steve Goff of the Washington Post.
The Chinese club also paid Seattle $2 million for his transfer.
‘Oba’, as he is called in the USA, has since joined his new club in pre-season training ahead of the new season in China.
He has played for Inter Milan (Italy), Levante (Spain), Wolfsburg (Germany), Newcastle United, Birmingham City (England) and Rubin Kazan (Russia).
