Olu of Warri’s comments on Maritime University, inflammable – Ijaw Leader

The claim by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, that the location of the proposed Maritime University of Nigeria at Okerenkoko, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State belong to the Itsekiri, has been rebuffed by an Ijaw leader, Chief Godspower Gnenekama.
Ogiame Ikenwoli had accused the federal and Delta State Governments of acquiring the site for the university from impostors.
In a reaction, however, Gbenekema, who is the Acting Secretary of Gbaramatu Kingdom, said that the claim by the Itsekiri monarch was provocative and could lead to another round of crisis between the two ethnic nationalities.
He noted that people do not lay claim to a land through court cases but lay claim to a land because they were the aborigines of the land.
Gbenekama, therefore called on the Ijaws to ignore the Itsekiris and continue to be law abiding citizens and maintain the existing peace.
He said, “This issue about Itsekiris calling everybody in Gbaramatu and other Ijaw communities as customary tenants is laughable.
