Governorship candidate of the peoples Democratic party PDP, eyitayo Jegede SAN has led a protest to the independent national electoral commission office in akure demanding a postponement of Saturday’s election.
Jegede who led hundreds of his supporters to the commission’s headquarters said the postponement is in line with with the electoral laws which stipulates that all eligible candidate’s name must be published 30 days to the election.
Orange FM visioner, shola Ilesanmi reports that Jegede who visited the inec office on his final return to the state after reclaiming his mandate at the appeal court however advised his supporters to intensify their campaigns to ensure his emergence in the poll.
Jegede aircraft toched the akure airport some minutes past 10 in the morning and was received by hundreds of supporters who then joined him for a motorcade from the airport down to his campaign office along ijapo road just as he acknowledged cheers from the people.
Earlier While speaking to newsmen at the airport Jegede thanked the people for always stranding by him all through the litigation.
At the campaign office hundreds of supporters rolled out the drums to celebrate his triumph over his enemies at the appeal and supreme court, insisting that he remains their choice.
Accompanied by the party chairman, clement faboyede, Jegede later led a crowd of enthusiastic supporters from his campaign office down to the inec office at alagbaka where he was attended to by the rec, olusegun Agbaje and other top management staff at the commission’ s gate.
While interfacing with the rec, Jegede said inec under law still has enough time to postpone the election over what he decribed as legal emergency in the spirit of fairness it has promised.
He said it is the court and inec that has imposed the present predicament on him and would be unfair for him to bear the brunt alone.
Jegede said the list of his agents are yet to be received from his authentic chairman less than 48 hours to the less not to talk of training them unlike his other co-contestants.
“There is need to collate the list of my agents, train them and submit their names for proper training and sending their names to inec for proper recognition by inec”
“Also, The voters registers has not be officially release to the authentic chairman and even if it has been released, do we have time to study it and make appropriate observations”. What we have come to ask is for inec to show some discretion in respect of fixing the date for election before it has a period of time within which to connect this election.
In his response, the rec, olusegun Agbaje insisted that the commission is ready to go on with the election as not doing do so will be of financial implications to the federal government.
However Speaking to newsmen after the interface with the inec rec, Jegede expressed optimism that whenever the election is held, he would win.
Jegede later led the last lap of his rally from the inec office down oja oba again acknowledging cheers from the people.
