‘Our Wardrobe Allowance is $2,500’ – Senate President

by on June 17, 2015

Nigeria’s senate president has reacted to the social media fury about the reported $45m (£28m) wardrobe allowance for the country’s 469 MPs, saying they will be accountable to the people.

But in a series of tweets, Bukola Saraki says that the actual annual allowance is $2,500 (£1,500) for each senator, not $110,000 each as reported by two Nigerian newspapers on Tuesday.

He added the body responsible for setting MPs’ salaries and allowances was looking into the matter and would publish details of their remuneration on its website.
